Real Ale & Cider Polypins & Polycasks
Currently we sell the following local real ales and ciders in polypins (which are like large wine boxes with the dispense system built-in) or polycasks (which are like plastic barrels with a valve and tap) and these are ideal for parties or wedding receptions. When ordering polypins or polycasks of beer at least 6 working days notice is required and a 50% deposit must be paid up front. For cider at least 2 weeks notice is required because the cider producers listed only deliver on a fortnightly basis. All prices shown include VAT.
PLEASE NOTE THAT POLYPINS CANNOT BE ORDERED ONLINE AT THE MOMENT. ALSO WE DO NOT PROVIDE MAIL ORDER BUT CAN DELIVER A POLYPIN TO YOU IF YOU LIVE IN OR CLOSE TO PLYMOUTH.
Real Ales
There are 2 types of beer sold in the polypins and polycasks - 'bright' beer or 'live' beer. With bright beer any yeast has been removed and the benefit of this is that the beer can be drunk straight away without the need to let it stand and settle. The disadvantage is that the beer will only last a maximum of 4 or 5 days before it starts to go off, even if you keep it cool. The live beer still contains the yeast and can last for several weeks as long as it is kept cool (but not refrigerated as this can give the beer a cold haze). However, the beer will need to be left for up to 24 hours in the serving position before you can drink it in order to allow the yeast to settle. Some breweries only stock live beer while others only bright beer - please see below for details.

Sharp's can also supply 5 litre (8.8 pint) mini-kegs of Doom Bar. These cost £16.50 each and the beer is bright so it must be consumed within 5 days from the date of delivery to the shop.

Please note that all the ciders listed below are still, i.e. naturally carbonated and containing some yeast. The cider in the polypin will last up to 6 weeks if kept cool.
